Srinagar, Apr 02 (KNO): Eight more persons were tested positive for Covid-19 in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory taking the toll of total positive cases in J&K to 70. Officials said that the total number of positive cases in Jammu division has reached upto 17 while as in Kashmir division it has reached up to 53. Of the new eight cases, three were reported from Kashmir and five from Jammu region. In Jammu, three close contacts of a microbiologist, who was tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, have been tested positive for coronavirus besides two others from Udhampur area, officials added "Father, wife and servant of a doctor have been tested positive and his mother has been tested negative while as two more patients from Udhampur have been tested positive who were also contacts of already positive patient taking toll of positive cases in Jammu division to 17 including one recovery,” an official told wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO). The doctor, who works in the Microbiology Department in the Government Medical College Jammu was tested positive on Monday, after which his family members and contacts were tested “So far three of his family members tested positive,” the official said, adding that two other persons were also close contacts of positive patient and they too will be tested. Nodal officer for coronavirus in J&K Dr Bhupinder Singh who is also mission director National health mission said that all five positive cases of Jammu division were contacts of already positive patients while as in Kashmir division one was having travel history of Saudi Arabia and two were contacts of already positive patients. "People are requested to stay inside, avoid unnecessary movement and cooperate with surveillance teams so that we can break the chain", he said. Deputy Medical Superintendent, JLNM Hospital Srinagar Dr Tabbasum told KNO that today no new patient was received by them besides that no report was received today however reports of many samples are yet to come. Dr Naveed Ahmad Shah, head of department Chest Disease hospital that 18 positive patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital and reports of many samples are awaited. Dr Jammeel Ahmad Mir Medical superintendent District Hospital Pulwama said that six more samples were taken today and have been sent for testing. There are four positive Covid-19 patients at the hospital and all four are recovering well, he added. As, per the daily information bulletin 17677 persons are under observation in Jammu and Kashmir while as 10694 persons are under home quarantine. According to the bulletin, 65 persons are under hospital isolation while as 622 persons are under hospital quarantine besides that 2187 persons have completed surveillance period and 4109 persons are under home surveillance. So far, 1084 samples were sent for tests, among 1084, 1010 are negative while as 70 are positive including 02 deaths and 03 recoveries besides that reports of 04 samples are still awaited—(KNO)
